West Ham's manager Believes Hammers Will Transform as Players Accept Responsibility for Poor Form
Nuno Espírito Santo has declared that the team's squad are eager to evolve and have taken blame for the club's disappointing results over the last year and a half.
Nuno, who is the club’s third manager since the previous manager left at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, is striving to shift the mood in the dressing room after replacing his predecessor recently. The London club have been short on guidance, and there is a widespread acceptance among the players that they contributed to Potter departing from his job after less than a year.
“I've encountered a nice team of individuals,” Nuno stated. “They're beginning to realise that we have to improve things. Without change, things will be the same. They are ready to change. It's evident. So let’s embrace it and let’s change it.”
“This applies from technical, strategic, fitness-related, mindset, discipline, communication. Clear communication is such an important asset for us. We currently lack have it fully. It has to be a fair and transparent exchange that we all participate in. The squad has held themselves accountable and are willing to move forward.”
Nuno's Immediate Focus
The new boss has had minimal opportunity to adjust. He does not have his coaching team so far, and the former Forest manager is not thinking about what West Ham, 19th before facing their next opponents on the weekend, can accomplish this campaign. “My task is simple,” he said. “It’s the immediate future.”
Defensive Concerns Facing the Hammers
A significant worry for the coach is bolstering his team's defending at dead-ball situations. The club have conceded eight goals from corners this term – the latest goal allowed came in his first game, Monday’s tie at Goodison Park – and will be under sustained scrutiny from dead balls against Arsenal. The concern for him is that it becomes a psychological problem.
“It can,” he said. “But we will try to avoid it. The biggest risk that can happen is that if an opponent earns a set-piece, we begin immediately believing that we are in trouble. It can develop into a psychological block.”
