Man confesses to sex offences involving boys at summer camp
A person who spiked sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys aged between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail before a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor said items including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his family member alerted the authorities about his concerns.
She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the authorities a second time.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
