China's Figure Skaters Under Probe After Displaying Prop Weapon at Event

The International Skating Union are conducting a formal inquiry following two Chinese ice dancers appeared with what looked like a replica weapon during a grand prix figure skating event.

Broadcast footage captured the skaters waiting with a sizable prop in the form of a rocket marked “DF-61” while waiting for their scores at the “kiss and cry” area on Saturday.

The DF-61 is a recently introduced China-produced ground-launched long-range weapon capable of transporting atomic warheads, which was unveiled at a military parade last month.

Officials is aware of an unsuitable plush item appears to have been among those tossed onto the rink by spectators following a routine during the competition,” the ISU commented via a release.

The item was then held by the skaters who had just performed. The ISU regrets this occurrence and will look into it more deeply.”

The duo finished in eighth place of 10 pairs in the ice dance event, which was won by the American pair of the United States.
